April 27, 2008 Sixth Sunday of Easter

“and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows him.  But you know him, because he remains with you, and will be in you.    John 14

The truth about God and His son has escaped the worldly.  They still believe that they are the center of the universe:   or else the false God which comes from their own personalities and ideas about life are.  But even our knowing the identity of Jesus is not enough: we must then obey His commandments.  This ability comes from the Holy Spirit.   Offered to us in love it is up to each of us to accept.    Amen

From Our Pastor

Father Buckley

At the Parish Council Meeting last Tuesday evening I informed the Council that as the result of a meeting at the Chancery on Monday of the previous week, we were given an assessment for All Saints School for this past school year.  We had not been assessed earlier this year because our financial status was still being determined after the Latin Community left.  Our assessment for this year past is $20,000.  The reason for the meeting was that the school is getting very low on funds and several parishes still had to be assessed.  Last year we paid $80,000 which was similar to the previous year.   This will come out of our educational endowment and parish savings.
I also spoke to the council about premiering a new parish web site.  This would be cutting edge in presentation and would help bring our parish some much deserved and needed presentation.  Our current web site is nice but I believe we need something to attract people to us.  This will take several months to prepare and will also take constant updating once place online.  It can be a valuable way to evangelize those who are active in the cyber world.   We also can show off our beautiful church interior on the site.

Pope Calls for New Pentecost

On May 11 the Church celebrates Pentecost.  At the Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, Pope Benedict called for a new Pentecost in the Church.  “May tongues of fire, combining burning love of God and neighbor with zeal for the spread of Christ’s Kingdom, descent on all present.”

“This is the message of hope we are called to proclaim and embody in a world where self-centeredness, greed, violence, and cynicism so often seem to choke the grafile growth of grace in people’s hearts.”

“If we are to be true forces of unity, let us be the first to seek inner reconciliation through penance.   Let us forgive the wrongs we have suffered and put aside all anger and contention.  Let us be the first to demonstrate the humility and purity of heart which are required to approach the splendor of God’s truth.”  So may it be here at St. Patrick’s as we live unified by the Holy Spirit.

     God Bless you,
    Fr. James Buckley, Pastor
