May 18, 2008 The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Trinity Sunday

The great revelation to us by God is that there are three persons of God: Father, Son and Spirit. Jesus commanded that we be baptized in the name of these three. The Vatican has just clarified this past month that anyone not baptized by these three names is not actually baptized and any other sacraments they have received are invalid. Father, Son, Spirit, NOT creator, redeemer, sanctifier.

From Our Pastor

Father Buckley

Tuesday is election day and our gym is one of the election sites.  Be sure to vote your conscience which is always informed by Catholic faith.

We will begin painting our gym next week.  The area of the walls above the green will be painted white and then we will have an insignia of a shamrock and a cross painted on the wall behind the stage.  We have been discussing this for several months at council.  This will all be finished well in time for our anniversary celebration.

We are saddened by the news out of St. Bridget’s Church.  These occasions are terrible for the Church and we must all pray that all people of faith look beyond the sins of those in responsible positions to see why we are church:  to know and love Christ: that our own sins are forgiven.  As we know here, these things heal.  But it is still unpleasant and difficult.

The missing funds were discovered when the parish finances were computerized and connected to the archdiocese.   Our system has been on line since last year after funds were missing.

We buried two parishioners in the last two weeks. Barbara Pelshaw and Nancy Salerno. They will be greatly missed by their families and by all of us. We endure these things by the grace of faith praying that we will all gather before Christ in the life that is to come.

I only have one more week of teaching the Archdiocesan biblical school on Thursday evenings.  When I started filling in for Sr. Sally who was ill (and who died over a moth ago) I did not realize that it would be both so enjoyable and so much work.  I’ll admit I am considering teaching another course next year.  We also will be continuing the review of Pope Benedict’s book, Jesus of Nazareth here at the parish soon.

We are baptizing thirteen babies this week at Mass.  It is great to see so many little souls being offered salvation.  We must do our best to give god example to them so they may grow up to fully enjoy God’s Holy Catholic Church and the love of us all.

On Sunday the 25th, we will have a reception with cake for all those graduating from high school after the 11 AM Mass.

     God Bless you,
    Fr. James Buckley, Pastor
