August 22, 2010 Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

   Mary set out for the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit cried in a loud voice and said “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”    Luke 1:39-41

August 22, 2010 Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

    Mary follows the prompting of the angel and goes to Elizabeth. Who could possibly relate to Mary given these circumstances? Who could be a kindred spirit with her concerning the miraculous work of God? Elizabeth, who was barren, was not going to give birth to John the Baptist, by the assisting hand of God.

   Mary is continuing the obedience to God (through his angels) and being faithful to her Immaculate Conception, therefore not sinning and bringing herself, one day, to her Assumption into heaven.

Prayers Do Get Answered!!
    Thank you to all who prayed me through my retreat this past week. Being away from TV, phone, computer, radio, etc., allows the mind to have the clutter stripped away. Once this happens the mind is able to focus on the “self” which is the true us. We then place that mind (during a retreat especially) at the disposal of God’s truth which as Our Lord said: will set us free if we will desire it above all else.
    Without all that clutter you have a better chance to see how you are living that truth. What affect has the Gospel truth had on you in the past? What effect does God promise in the future? In what areas of your life are you not living the truth? This along with time alone with Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament and reflection on the Holy Scriptures brings the power of God to your struggling soul.
   Then you top it all off with a sincere confession and viola: you’re all ready to come back to the world to better live the vocation God has called you to.
   This is why every Catholic should go on retreat every once in a while. I am very sorry for anyone who is afraid to look at themselves clearly before God and acknowledge their sin and their need. If we have fear of God, then where can we ever find any rest or peace? A retreat is the most healthy thing you can do!

    I am looking for a very good seamstress to make some vestments. This could even involve selling them on a wider scale and making a bit of money. If you know of anyone who has the skill or interest, please let me know.

One Hundred Years in Our Church
    This week marks one hundred years that our parish has worshipped in our current church building. During that one hundred years there have been many changes as we adjusted to the times of faith that history brought our way. Let us pray that one hundred years from now many will still celebrate the Holy Mass, Confessions, First Communions and Reconciliation, weddings and other great events of the Catholic faith life within these walls. We thank the Lord in prayer and action for all He has done for us.

Time to Return to Education Year
   If anyone is in need of clothing or school materials to begin the education year with, please let Father Buckley know very soon. No child should have to go to school without the proper essentials.

The Scourge of Pop Culture
   Although many of us are unaffected because of the lifestyle we lead which leads us away from popular culture and its antics, many are still drawn to it. We must remind ourselves quite often that many, many children are influenced, at least in having it presented to them, by TV, music, radio, etc. There are always new attempts to attract young people and sell them stuff and the conscienceless will defy all in their efforts to bring perversion to others. The most recent are the filth and sick presentations of Lady Gaga, a sad young lady who demonstrates the most acute affects of disaffection from others for she, and those who promote her, care not of innocence or Godliness, only of bringing attention to themselves and… selling tickets.

Adoration & Benediction
    Eucharistic Adoration is held on Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. until Benediction at 5:00 p.m. The church must be accessed with the combination lock available from the secretary.

That those who are without work or homes or who are otherwise in serious need may find understanding and welcome, as well as concrete help in overcoming their difficulties.

Missionary: Victims of Discrimination, Hunger and Forced Emigration
That the Church may be a “home” for all people, ready to open its doors to any who are suffering from racial or religious discrimination, hunger, or wars forcing them to emigrate to other countries.
