Samuel and Martha Rogers had a plot of land on Fifteenth and Castelar, (then spelled Casteller) that they had opened for development in 1878.
(Martha Street to the north of Castelar is named for Martha Rogers.) Bishop O'Conor purchased the plot of land on Fifteenth and Castelar for $1,700.00 from the Rogers on March 4, 1882.
